What are Servers and Web Servers?
A server is a common, collective definition, that can apply to both the web server and the application server. Typically, the term "server" refers to the computer, placed in some data center, on which the site or service is located.
Web servers are one of the foundations of the Internet, the World Wide Web. The main purpose of the web server is to receive HTTP requests and generate responses to them. The answer can be a picture, text or even an HTML page.
A web server can refer to both the software that processes requests, and the computer/server, the physical hardware on which the software is installed.
The application server is a software solution that is aimed at the correct execution of programs and scripts on which the application is built.
The application server acts as a single set of components, to which the developer accesses through the API of this solution.
The application server works in conjunction with the web server. Most often, a web server is even part of an application server. If the web server is intended for servicing static content, for example, issuing a page, then the application server is responsible for the logic of user interaction with the displayed content.
