What is a WebRTC leak?

Before talking about WebRTC leaks, let's define the concept of a "leak" in the context of Internet security.

A leak refers to the transfer of a user's real IP address to a network or the ability of a third party to obtain information about a user's real IP address.

WebRTC leak is the transmission, without the knowledge of the user, of information about the real IP address of the same user when using WebRTC technology.

This technology is used in any browser and is available to everyone. WebRTC is short for Web Real Time Communication. This is an open standard that was developed for the transmission of streaming data, audio or video, via the network in real time. In addition, it does not require any additional software, except for the installed browser.

Unfortunately, this technology was not so perfect. Using a p2p connection, this technology transfers your real IP to an outside user, even when using a VPN technology, because the receiving side is transmitted with not only a public, but also a local IP-address.

Solving this problem in your security can only be by a complete and unconditional disabling of WebRTC technology in the browser.
